The Jubilee Centre has become a central pillar of the community in Bolton, offering vital support to adults with learning difficulties, physical disabilities, and autism.

The centre has been designed with the help of service users and their families, and includes:

  • hydrotherapy pool,
  • therapy rooms,
  • changing rooms, and
  • social areas with cafe.

A state-of-the-art facility

A flagship community hub with specialised therapy rooms and a custom-built therapy pool, the Jubilee Centre is enhancing the lives of its service users, their families, and carers.
The hub has a rebound room with trampolines, an amphitheatre, sensory garden and an outdoor classroom which can be used in all weather conditions.
There are social spaces for visitors to enjoy, including a cafe, and the space has the flexibility to be fully zoned off into several smaller rooms or can be used as a modern expansive open space for larger gatherings and community use.

A personalised swimming pool

The whole facility has been built with its users at the very heart of its design.
Careful consideration has been given to the reverberations of the swimming pool room, with sensory lighting also installed, both of which provide support to service users with forms of autism who can be negatively affected when exposed to non-sensory sound and light environments.
Working with our supply chain partner and swimming pool specialists Buckingham Pools, the very best available acoustic walls have been used in the construction to prevent sound from bouncing off hard surfaces. This has created a calming and tranquil space for visitors of the pool.
To further support visitors, special hoists and pool platform lifts have been installed to make access to the water as safe and easy as possible.

Working together for the best results

We are always looking to work with our customers and their end users to get the best results on all our projects, and that's the approach we have taken with the Jubilee Centre.
During the design development stage, our team worked with existing centre staff, adult end users and their carers, families, and supporters, to find out the best environment for them.
We identified the best lighting, stimulating colours and shades, and equipment that would work best in the sensory areas. Our design team was chosen for their specialisms in design such facilities.
The result was a space that does exactly what the staff and visitors of the day centre require, providing real benefits to their lives.

Green credentials

We aim for the highest standards in sustainability on our projects, and we have worked with Bolton Council to make sure Jubilee Centre has important features that are good for the environment.
The project has been designed to achieve a BREEAM Very Good rating with underfloor heating and solar panels (photovoltaics) on the roof.

Supporting the community

We support the communities that we work in, and providing social value is a core belief at Robertson.
One of our targets is to create £1 billion of social value by 2030, by enhancing the lives of people living in the areas where our projects are.
Our team volunteered at the Bolton Community Kitchen to help those in need. They held an onsite treasure hunt with the adults who would use the centre. And they delivered a workshop to volunteers at the allotments, teaching them how to build planters, trellises, and benches, donating the materials used.
The team also built bird feeders and hedgehog boxes and supported local SMEs (Small and Medium Sized Enterprises) within the supply chain, providing a net social value benefits of £3.2m from the project.

Clear Futures

The Jubilee Centre was delivered as part of our Clear Futures strategic partnership with the local authority and is one of many projects in the area that are being delivered by Robertson.
Clear Futures is a procurement and management vehicle for the UK public sector and provides flexibility so that our customers have the resource and support needed at every step of the way within the project cycle.
