RMF Health is delivering a £2.5m redevelopment to Ward 20 at St John’s Hospital in Livingston, in partnership with NHS Lothian. The project will see a new theatre built for eye and hand surgery patients, within the existing Ward 20, to support pre- and post-operative care.
I’m delighted - this refurbishment will vastly improve the access for patients to these services.
St John’s Hospital is the regional hand trauma unit and is the referral and treatment centre for patients throughout Lothian. As well as the additional theatre, the reconfiguration of the existing ward will create a new day surgery unit with two theatres, and will improve access for patients requiring hand trauma surgery.
A new theatre had been identified as an area for improvement, and will mean more patients can be seen. Patients waiting for hand trauma surgery can sometimes be admitted for an overnight stay, and this refurbishment will provide additional capacity for up to ten theatre sessions per week.
