Minister for Education and Welsh Language Marks Milestone in delivery of Mynydd Isa Campus

Jeremy Miles, Minister for Education and Welsh Language, was the guest of honour on Friday 21 April, to mark a major construction milestone at the site of the new Mynydd Isa Campus.

The Minister was joined by representatives of Flintshire County Council, WEPCo (Welsh Education Partnership) and Robertson Construction to sign the first of the steel beams for the education campus which will be home to over 1,300 pupils when it is ready for occupation in November 2024.

Mynydd Isa Campus will be the first school to be delivered through WEPco utilising the Welsh Government's Mutual Investment Model (MIM). The Minister was joined in signing the beam by Isla, Osian, Leo and Ruby, year 4 and 5 pupils from Ysgol Mynydd Isa and Chloe and Zac, year 7 pupils from Argoed High School, all of whom will be attending the new campus.

Jeremy Miles, Minister for Education and Welsh Language, said:

"I am pleased to see this project underway, being the first MIM education project to reach financial close and the first all-through campus to be delivered under the MIM programme.

I look forward to seeing the high quality facilities and opportunities this sustainable school will offer pupils next year."

The Leader of Flintshire County Council and Cabinet Member for Education and Youth, Councillor Ian Roberts, said:

"I am delighted to represent the local authority today to mark an important milestone in the construction of the new Mynydd Isa Campus.

This is an exciting occasion in the construction of the new campus, I am pleased local pupils will also have the opportunity to get involved when they are invited to sign the steel beams too.

I look forward to seeing construction works progress and to welcome pupils when they occupy the new campus from November 2024."
