Modernising elderly care in Aberdeenshire
We constructed a new care village for Aberdeenshire Council in the town of Inverurie. The village incorporates a 60-bed modern care home, as well as eight semi-detached cottages to provide independent living facilities.
Modernising elderly care
The village, named Bennachie View, was built to replace Blythewood Care Home in Port Elphinstone. Aberdeenshire Council needed to provide a range of housing and care options for older people in the area.
In partnership with NHS Grampian, 10 bedrooms within the care home will host a specialist dementia facility that was previously a part of Inverurie Hospital.
The main building of Bennachie View has a central core area that branches off into five separate households. Each household is made up of 12 single bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, a living room, dining room, assisted bathroom, a visiting services room and a quiet lounge space.
Efficient engineering services
The mechanical and electrical services are designed to keep the client's future energy costs to a minimum. Energy-efficient dual gas and biomass systems provide district heating to all properties, making use of the surrounding natural forestry resources, while roof-mounted solar panels generate some of the hot water.
BMS controls ensure that the systems are running economically as well as allowing Aberdeenshire District Council to remotely monitor the plant.
Internal and external lighting systems are also designed to automatically switch off when rooms are not in use.
