Bolton Central, Great Moor Street

We have built a new 2,800sq m office building on the corner of Great Moor Street and Newport Street, next to the new Bolton Interchange transport hub. It incorporates Grade A standard office space, and acts as a gateway building on this prominent town centre site.

This project was delivered for PSP Bolton LLP, a joint venture between the Winston Group and Bolton Council.

JM Architects' design takes a five-storey brick-built form, which establishes a visual bookend to the streetscape whilst also acting as a focal point to the interchange, which incorporates a combined rail and bus station. Together, the projects will play a key role in the regeneration of Bolton.

The building has large floor-to-ceiling windows with brick side panels, which provide architectural links to the area's industrial heritage. Floor to floor heights are 3.9m, which will provide the deep-plan offices with even distribution of light and a sense of wellbeing.
A roof terrace creates a pleasant environment on the flat roofs on the second and third floors, offering excellent views across the town.
The concrete floor beams are exposed, allowing maximum internal flexibility and space planning.
Commercial space on the ground floor allows retail use in the future, which will bring more footfall to the centre and improve the streetscape.
 

Two and a half thousand students and over 60 staff will use the building. Staff from the University began to occupy the building in May 2017, with the final classroom layout ready for the new academic year that September.

This will allow the University to be based in the town centre and helps to unite "town and gown". The staff and students working and studying at Bolton Central will provide a boost to the town centre economy, making it a more vibrant place to come.
