Summary
Encouraging the cooperation of the Police Service and the Council
Buchan House, the home of the Aberdeenshire Council base, has been extended to accommodate Police Scotland.
Based in Peterhead, the two-storey extension allows facilities to be shared by Police Scotland and the existing Aberdeenshire Council base, meaning Police Scotland and the council can cooperate effectively.
Plans for this project were developed on a design and build basis by Robertson, ensuring a cost-effective design and delivery schedule that brings best value for the customer.
Additional work space allows coordination
The work started on site in September 2019 was completed by June 2020. The extension provides two storeys, which the two organisations can share equally. By creating a second floor, the ground floor is used by staff from the Police, and the upper floor is used as shared facilities for both the Aberdeenshire Council base and the Police Service. Nearby land that was previously used as overspill for the site, has been converted into permanent car parking spaces for the building.
This important extension provides essential space, facilities and accommodation for Police Scotland, while employees from both the Police Service and Aberdeenshire Council base can collaborate effectively and help each other when necessary.
Benefits to the community
Now that the extension is in place, the cooperation of the council and the Police service helps to reduce the number of incidents of crime and other community issues in the area as well as providing, increased access to services for the public.
It also provides further employment at the Police Scotland branch at Buchan House, as well as having supported apprenticeships and work placements with Robertson during the construction phase.
Delivering a bespoke place of work is designed to cater to the needs of both Aberdeenshire Council and Police Scotland.
