Summary
Non-combustible anodised aluminium cladding for a key campus building
Robertson negotiated the recladding of the Interdisciplinary Centre of the Social Sciences (ICOSS) building with the University of Sheffield following successful projects at Gene Therapy, AMRC NW and Edwardian Building.
The project involved the removal and replacement of cladding on the stair cores of this existing building with new non-combustible anodised aluminium cladding panels. In addition, we replaced windows where needed.

Delivering recladding works to a live university building
Originally designed by CPMG Architects in 2006, ICOSS provides specialist research facilities with state-of-the-art laboratory, comprising approximately 1,850 m2 over five floors. To meet new building requirements, the cladding has been removed and new non-combustible anodized aluminium cladding panels installed.
Close collaboration with subcontractors
Prioritising communication with the cladding and scaffolding subcontractors, TASK and IBN, has led to programme saving despite delays of third party agreements, with scaffolding removal following cladding installation on the same day, streamlining the process to be its most efficient.
There was a key target for the works to be completed before Christmas 2023, which was achieved.
