Accessible homes for all needs

As a 'housing with care' development, Loxa Court provides modern, secure housing for people aged 60 and over who have a care need including disability and dementia. By bringing specially-designed housing and care failites together, residents can continue to live in their own homes for longer.

The development includes 14 amenity flats, five for wheelchair users and five for people with dementia.

The care complex Block also contains communal areas where residents can socialise, a kitchen and two offices together with other staff facilities.

Preconstruction work to maximise quality

During preconstruction we agreed early quality criteria and standards with Hanover and developed/used samples and mock-ups. This included constructing a sample flat to provide a quality benchmark for our operatives and subcontractors, by demonstrating the high standard of workmanship which was expected.

Phased handover

Because of demand, we did a phased completion so residents with specific needs could access their new home and care as soon as possible. The team also worked with Hanover Scotland on open days before handing over the project, giving prospective residents and their families the chance to look around the accommodation and facilities for suitability, and easing the transition into an independent care setting.

The project continued our relationship with Hanover Scotland – specialists in services for older people – with three housing developments having been previously delivered together in Forres, Fort William and Fochabers.

Key facts

  • 44 two-bedroom flats.
  • Purpose-built, dementia-friendly gardens.
  • Structures were timber framed from our Robertson factory with render and external cladding detail.
  • Property roofs have solar panelling to power communal areas and external light with left-over power going back to the grid.
"Creating quality housing at Hanover Scotland is one of our top priorities and we are delighted to have worked with Robertson again to deliver housing that will cater to the needs of our residents enabling them to live life to the fullest".
