Summary
New student accommodation for the University of the Highlands and Islands
Delivered in partnership with developers Cityheart, the purpose-built student accommodation across three of the UHI campuses is helping to meet growing demand in what is fast becoming a vibrant university sector in the north of Scotland.
With education curriculums designed to meet future local and regional needs, the modern new residences on the Inverness, Elgin and Fort William campuses are a key factor in the university's goal to attract more students to the Highlands and Islands to study.
Key facts
- Phase 1 delivered a £2.4m, 40-bed facility in Fort William and a £6.2m, 150-bed facility in Inverness.
- Phase 2 delivered a second £6.3m, 150-bed accommodation block in Inverness and a £2.4m 40-bed facility in Elgin.
- A third phase of development is planned for the University's island locations.
Using pre-fabricated frames from our specialist timber frame division, we were able to reduce construction time without comprising on design, quality or cost. This was especially important to reduce risk of delay from bad weather where works were taking place during the winter months. For instance, floors were delivered weather-protected so each was watertight as the kit was erected, providing early access to follow-on trades.
Residences offer a mix of single rooms with private cooking facilities and studio rooms with shared kitchens, as well as access to wi-fi, cycle storage, laundry services and a support service.
Student residents will benefit from the highest quality, fit-for-purpose student accommodation available at each location. We also look forward to working further with the university on phase three of its development plans.
