Summary
Improving recycling facilities for the community
Robertson Civil Engineering completed work for the improvement programme to the Western Road Depot in East Ayrshire.
The project comprised decommissioning and reconstruction within a live cleansing depot and public use waste recycling yard.
Our work on the site
Block structures were constructed along with 600m of security fencing and gates. 400m of HV cabling was rerouted and a new ducting system of over 4km was installed within the live public environment.
Working closely with our specialist contractor, an intricate CCTV and lighting strategy was designed and installed to the customer's specification and all electrical and data systems throughout the site were also rerouted.
In addition, three Legio block structures were constructed along with 600m of security fencing and gates.
Business as normal
The facility continued to trade as normal throughout the works with over 200 members of the public and over 40 lorries entering the site daily. The local council staff also worked from the adjacent buildings and their access and car parking requirements had to be considered and managed.
Benefitting the local community
We engaged with a local charity to install a new kitchen in their facility that provided food to homeless and less fortunate members of the local community.
Our customer set us a target to use an agreed percentage of local labour and suppliers within a 40-mile radius of the site, to enhance the benefits to the local community from the project.
