Constructing food grade manufacturing units

ONE SeedPod will offer a range of benefits to ambitious businesses in the food and drink sector. It provides a platform to scale production in food-grade manufacturing units, develop new products and processes in the new product development kitchen and pilot plant, and showcase their products online and in person in the demo kitchen. Additionally, it offers a vibrant community for entrepreneurs, founders, and business leaders to connect and access tailored support to accelerate growth.

Driving innovation in the North East of Scotland

The £27m investment will enable manufacturing and production for businesses to lead in innovation, productivity, sustainability and developing foods for the future. Opportunity North East (ONE) is leading and delivering the Aberdeen City Region Deal innovation project to create the new space, facilities, programmes and entrepreneurial environment for a key growth sector of the economy on Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC) Craibstone Campus.

A game changing project for the food and drink sector

Robertson Construction is the main contractor on the project which includes £10m capital funding from the UK Government and Scottish Government via the Aberdeen City Regional Deal (ACRD). Food and drink businesses and partners hailed the project as game-changing for the sector, which employs more than 22.000 people in north east Scotland with an annual turnover of £2.4 billion.

The FoodHub falls within a £27m investment project which has been developed by Opportunity North East Ltd (ONE), Scottish Enterprise, SRUC and industry led by the ONE Food, Drink & Agriculture Board.  It also forms part of the Aberdeen City Region Deal, having as its objective to accelerate growth and build on the strengths of the food industry cluster in the North East of Scotland.

The Aberdeen City Region Deal was the first of its kind with a vision to diversify our economy by investing in key sector innovation and growth. Food and drink is this region’s biggest industry after energy, employing 22,000 people, and the UK’s largest manufacturing sector. ONE and the project partners are investing in the growth potential of new and established businesses. We celebrate a milestone in the build today and look ahead to ONE SeedPod becoming the focal point for practical growth support to the sector.
