The Muirhouse Shopping Centre buildings have bebeen ng replaced by three new urban blocks with ground floor retail, commercial and residential development above.
A fourth block provides a community hub, becoming the focal point around an improved civic square, with a library and much-needed services for the local community.
Each of the four blocks will be positioned around the civic square, with a vehicle-free landscaped area, seating zones and shrubbery, providing space for community events.
Regeneration at the heart
Regeneration is the primary focus of the project. The Muirhouse commercial centre sits at the centre of a wider Pennywell regeneration project, with an extensive programme of affordable housing being led by developer Urban Union.
Procured through Scape
The project was procured through the Scape Major Works framework (now Scape Scotland), with social value an integral part. Scape Group is a public sector owned built environment specialist offering a full suite of national frameworks and innovative design solutions.
