Robertson wins Green Business of the Year

Robertson has been named Green Business of the Year at the 2025 British Business Awards, held last night in Edinburgh.

The national award recognises the company’s leadership in sustainable construction and its long-term commitment to environmental responsibility.

The judging panel highlighted the depth and breadth of sustainability activity across the company. This includes the delivery of low-carbon and net zero buildings, significant emissions reductions and raising environmental standards across the wider construction industry.

Judges were also impressed with the company’s £50bn long-term strategic partnership model Clear Futures, focusing on delivering transformational built environment decarbonisation pathways for public sector customers.

Elliot Robertson, CEO, Robertson Group, said: “This award reflects the work of everyone across Robertson: those delivering net zero projects, supporting supply chain learning, designing greener approaches, developing transformational decarbonisation partnerships with local authorities and building the future, sustainably. We’ve embedded environmental responsibility into the way we think and act as a business. This recognition reinforces the direction we’re taking and the impact we’re aiming to achieve.”

The Green Business of the Year category celebrates organisations that are delivering measurable environmental outcomes while continuing to achieve commercial success. Robertson is the first major construction company to receive the award.

In 2023, Robertson was awarded the prestigious Terra Carta Seal by the Sustainable Markets Initiative. Launched by HM King Charles III, the seal is awarded to global companies leading the charge towards a sustainable future.

Robertson became one of the first UK construction businesses to achieve carbon neutrality in 2018. Since then, it has reduced emissions intensity by 67 percent and has been independently verified as climate positive by One Carbon World.

Robertson is the only Tier 1 contractor to hold Platinum status in the Supply Chain Sustainability School Plant Charter. It also remains the only UK construction company to have received the RoSPA International Dilmun Environmental Award.

From developing low-carbon schools and pioneering sustainable housing solutions, to our climate positive status and industry-first training initiatives, every part of Robertson plays a role in shaping a better, greener built environment.
